Vranec

Vranec

North Macedonia · Red · Available (A)

Written Vranac in Montenegro, Vranec here. A Montenegrin autochthonous variety, it is the most planted grape in Montenegro and one of the most important in North Macedonia; DNA work established that it arose from a cross between Kratošija (male parent) and Duljenga (female parent). In Macedonian hands it gives opaque purple colour, high tannin, blackberry and dark plum, and notes of chocolate, tobacco and dried herb. It can show a sense of place, with clear differences between cooler and warmer zones, and has genuine ageability. Widely exported and the country’s calling card.
