Early Melnik / Melnik 55

Bred at Sandanski in the mid-20th century by crossing Shiroka Melnishka Loza with a French variety (usually given as Valdiguié) to produce something that ripens reliably. Melnik 55 is a selection from that programme. Softer, fruitier and more approachable than the parent, with plum and spice. Increasingly the commercial face of the Melnik region.
