Debinë e Bardhë

Debinë e Bardhë

Albania · White · Limited (B)

Grown in the Përmet region, notable for high acidity and finesse, and particularly well suited to sparkling wine, which is drawing growing interest among Albanian producers. It appears to have affinities with Debina Kala in Greece; in Përmet it is also eaten as a table grape and used for glikò, a Slow Food presidium, and it covers around 5% of Albanian vineyard area. Note that a coastal population around Himara is also described, resistant to salt-laden Adriatic wind, giving citrus-driven wines — sources differ on whether these are the same population.
